Chinoiserie

My chinoiserie paintings are based on an artistic style that emerged in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. I have loved the chinoiserie style since I was a young girl, spending time with my grandmother who had a beautiful collection of antiques. I primarily use watercolor and tiny little brushes to capture the details of each piece.

Flora & Fauna

In these paintings I aim to express my love of nature, especially florals and birds. Some of my paintings are more realistic but often I try to capture the subject in an imaginative way using color and composition to evoke an emotion or mood.

Landscapes

My landscapes, better described as skyscapes focus on the effects of light and atmosphere in the moment. They are almost always based on a memory of a time and place, not from a specific photo. I am often asked, “where is this?”. My response is always “where do you think it is or what does it remind you of?”. This way each viewer is allowed to make the painting their own.

Abstract

My abstract paintings allow me to be spontaneous with brushstrokes, and the use of color. This allows the viewer to engage with the piece on a visual and emotional level. They are almost always filled with bright colors and many layers.

Seasonal Art

I love to express the seasons and holidays with fun art. Whether I am painting lobsters and boats in summertime, hand painted chinoiserie easter eggs, or angels and nutcrackers at Christmas I enjoy creating pieces that help usher in a season and represent the memories of a favorite holiday.

Hi, I'm Cathy!

Growing up in Miami, Florida, and spending summers in the scenic mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina, I was captivated by the vivid landscapes and lush environments around me.  The vibrant colors and rich natural beauty of South Florida and the serene Carolina mountains inspired a deep love for color and nature that now shines through my artwork.
